WACO, Texas (KWTX) – The search has ended for three men believed to be armed who ran into a wooded area near La Vega Junior High School at Orchard Lane and Loop 340 after their Chevrolet Malibu crashed as they attempted to elude Waco Texas anti-gang unit officers.

Initial reports indicated authorities were looking for two men, one armed with a handgun and the other with a rifle, but Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said three men ran after leading officers on a pursuit through the South Forks subdivision that started with an attempted traffic stop near Orchard Lane.

The three should be considered armed and dangerous, he said.

Residents should remain vigilant and should call 911 if they see anything suspicious, he said.

The junior high and La Vega Intermediate School were placed on soft lockdown as officers searched on the ground and from the air for the suspects, according to messages the district sent to parents of students.

Residents in the area were advised to shelter in place.

“There is a concern that the suspects are armed so we are asking people to stay inside at this time and call 911 and report anything they feel could be suspicious in the area,” Waco Officer Garen Bynum said.
