Police: Marlin man charged as hit-and-run driver in death of man in motorized wheelchair
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Police made an arrest Monday in connection with the hit-and-run death of a man struck Saturday while using his motorized wheelchair to travel south on Robinson Drive.
Police arrested Orlon Simpson, 41, Monday evening at his home in Marlin, Waco Officer Garen Bynum said.
Simpson was taken to the McLennan County Jail, charged with failure to stop and render aid.
His name did not appear on the jail’s online roster Tuesday.
Officers also found the Toyota Camry investigators think was the first vehicle to strike Dennis Roberts, 57.
Roberts was in the wheelchair headed south in the left lane of Robinson Drive when the Toyota struck him at around 8:45 p.m. Saturday near Madison Drive.
The driver of the Camry fled, dragging the wheelchair under the car.
Officers later found the wheelchair near the intersection of South 27th Street and Primrose Drive.
Roberts was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center where he later died.
The driver of a second vehicle that was involved in the deadly accident did stop.
