LORENA, Texas (KWTX) - The Lorena Police Department will have an increased presence Friday at Lorena High School after the arrest of a student who allegedly posted a threat against the school on Instagram.

Lorena Police Chief Dickson said the Lorena High student shared the threat on Thursday, September 23 with the goal of getting school canceled on Friday, September 24.

In a letter emailed to parents earlier in the day, Lorena ISD Superintendent Joe Kucera reassured parents that despite the increased police presence, “there is no known or immediate threat to our high school or any other campus in the district.”

Police Chief Dickson echoed the sentiment on Facebook, reassuring parents their “child’s safety and the safety of school staff is our top priority.”

Dickson warned students about making threats against a school campus. “Anytime a threat like this is discovered it is taken very seriously by the school district and the Lorena Police Department,” the police chief said, “We will use all resources available to us to determine the sender of these messages.”
