College Station firefighters save mom, children from burning apartment

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - College Station firefighters are looking into what started a fire that damaged an apartment complex during the noon hour Sunday.

The fire happened at the Landmark Apartments on Longmire Drive near the Walmart store.

According to firefighters, a mother and her two children were trapped inside and had to be rescued. They all had significant smoke inhalation and were taken to a hospital to be treated. Also injured was a person was suffered burns and another person who fell.

A cat was also revived at the scene, firefighters said.

A total of 24 units were In the building where the fire took place but only two apartments have significant damage.

The American Red Cross and the Community Emergency Response Team are assisting those families displaced.

“Our crews did a great job getting a good stop on the fire, rescuing the three people immediately, taking care of a total of five victims, and then we also have the resuscitation of a cat that they pulled out of the fire with some Smoke inhalation,“ said College Station Fire Chief Richard Mann. “So overall a successful operation today.”

Chief Mann says the fire started in a first-floor apartment but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
