Marlin police arrest suspect in shooting that left one wounded

MARLIN, Texas (KWTX) - The suspect in the shooting that left one person wounded after a verbal altercation in Marlin is Dontrell Lamont Hayes, 22, Marlin Police Chief James Hommel confirmed to KWTX.

Hayes is charged with with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, Hommel said.

Police confirm a single round was fired and the person wounded by Hayes was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest in stable condition.

The shooting happened at about 1 p.m. on Brown Street. Police officers located the suspect on Bridge Street coming out of a city park.

Hommel said Hayes tried to run from the officers, but they caught up with him and took him into custody after a brief struggle.

Hayes is being checked by medical staff, and once he’s medically cleared, he will be booked into the Falls County Jail.

Police said this is an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the public.
